Introduction to Biotechnology
Biotechnology is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make products. Biotechnology includes both laboratory techniques and traditional agricultural techniques. It is a combination of technology, micro-biology, computer sciences and chemical engineering. Hungarian engineer Karl Ereky defines biotechnology as "Any technological application that uses biological system or living organisms to make or modify the process or products for specific use."

- Agricultural Biotechnology - Agricultural biotechnology is an area of agricultural science that involves the use of scientific tools, techniques, including genetic engineering, molecular markers, molecular diagnostics, vaccines and tissue culture, to modify living organisms: plants, animals, and microorganisms.
- Animal Biotechnology – Animal biotechnology deals with techniques used to engineer and modify the genomes of animals to improve their suitability for industrial, agricultural and pharmaceutical applications.
- Forensic Biotechnology – Forensic biotechnology is the application of science to criminal and civil laws enforced by police agencies in a criminal justice system.
- White Biotechnology – It is also known as Industrial biotechnology. It involves the use of living cells and enzymes to create industrial products that require less energy, create lesser waste and are easily degradable.
- Aquatic Biotechnology – Aquatic Biotechnology is defined as the study that imparts the knowledge of use of aquatic organisms and plants for biotechnological use.
